Americans Still Buying Shit – Microsoft, Nintendo Post Record Sales
Am I the only person that wants to vomit whenever someone uses the phrase “in this economy“? As in “You know, in this economy it’s really hard to brush your teeth properly. Maybe times are inordinately rough for other people, but I’ve always had to make a difficult economic choices about the quality of my ramen noodles when I go shopping.
Perhaps we can finally retire the loathsome phrase after 2011′s Black Friday. Not only have national sales numbers been through the roof, but both Microsoft and Nintendo have been like a dog with a boner over their retail performance.
The Xbox 360 had its best sales week ever last week. That’s best performance of all time. Like, since its launch back in 2005. Over 960,000 consoles crossed the counter and are now hidden in Uncle Marty’s Magical Basement – the one with the monster in it that will definitely eat you should you decide to check down there for presents. If you’re handy with numbers, you might note that that’s almost one million consoles, all inside one week. 750,000 Kinect sensors also rang the till, which is downright astounding for an add-on peripheral.
Now on to the news probably none of you guys care about. Nintendo had an amazing Black Friday week, with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword selling 535,000 units and Super Mario 3D Land moving over 500,000. Those numbers make Skyward Sword the fastest-selling Zelda game every, while 3D Land takes the crown for fastest-selling mobile Mario. The Wii put up numbers as well, moving 500,000 consoles. Numbers for the 3DS are fuzzier, as Nintendo’s only announced a %352 jump in sales for the handheld over the previous week. Conveniently, we don’t have numbers for the previous week.
Sony hasn’t announced any numbers just yet, but I’m sure they did fine. Right? Guys?
Regardless of how poorly the PSP sold this Black Friday (and it was probably really, really bad), these numbers mean you shouldn’t pin your hopes on a new generation of consoles in the near future. That’s economics baby – why would you release a new product to market when you can still sell the old one?

Glad to see people are still purchasing Wii games in large numbers, I don’t think Wii games have done well in the last couple of years.
I got a PS3 on Black Friday for my birthday. So Sony can report at least one sale. This is what we call “on the ground” journalism, baby.
Americans? or just USA?
Oh, it’s not the same.
compares to the number that japanese got these days, we can truly learn what is main-field advantage lol. shame on you. you should have practice more before starting a war. thats the way, baby.
