It seems as though some gamers have been having strange troubles with their Xbox 360 consoles of late. According to a few different articles floating around the gaming-web, a couple different hotly anticipated new releases have encountered some problems on Microsoft’s gaming system du jour.

According to an article on Eurogamer, players of Batman: Arkham City have been posting on Warner Bros.’ forums to find solutions to save files that have gone missing on the Xbox 360.

Let me tell you right now: if that shit happened to me, I’d probably drop kick my Xbox out a window. Holy moley.

The company’s US community manager, Andy Cataldo, had this to say on the forums in response to the gamers’ frustrations:

“We greatly appreciate and value you as a customer and apologize for any inconvenience if you have encountered any technical problems which might have impacted your experience with the game. We would very much like to fix the ‘disappearing save files’ issue some consumers have been reporting with the XBOX 360 version of the game as quickly as possible. Thus far our QA department has been unable to reproduce this issue.”

The forum post calls for users to answer a series of questions and submit their responses to support@wbgames.com. Here’s the questionnaire, just in case some of our own readers have hit this problem:

  • What version of the XBOX 360 hardware are you are experiencing the “disappearing save files” issue on?
  • What storage method are you using to save your Batman: Arkham City game files to (i.e. XBOX 360 hard drive, XBOX 360 memory unit, USB drive)?
  • What version of the XBOX 360 system software do you have on your machine?
  • Are you running a Beta version of the forthcoming XBOX 360 “Holiday 2011” system update?
  • Have you experienced the “disappearing save files” issue before and/or after installing any Batman: Arkham City DLC content (If yes, please be specific as to the DLC content you have downloaded)?
  • Have you experienced the “disappearing save files” issue before and/or after installing either of Batman: Arkham City’s two title updates?

Of course, even this pretty logical response to a very frustrating problem has prompted some forum users to call bullshit and threaten to call the Better Business Bureau, or, even worse for Batman, just switch over to Skyrim.

Hold your horses there, nerdlinger.

According to a few different websites, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s got its own set of issues. According to Cinema Blend, installing the game onto your Xbox hard drive causes a big dip in graphical quality.

From the Bethesda forums on the problem:

Skyrim uses a lot of dynamic streaming systems, including textures. We’ve seen a few reports of certain textures temporarily scaling down on the Xbox 360, and not scaling back up […] We have verified that this issue does not occur when playing off the disk and when the game is fully cached (not installed). Skyrim makes heavy use of the Xbox 360 caching system, and caches over the normal course of play while in menus or interiors. This cache can be wiped when other games are played or when the user manually removes it.”

Eesh. That ain’t no good.

Xbox, what’s your deal, dude? You were so cool not too long ago. Also, if you erase my Arkham City save file, Imma get a sledge hammer and do some “surgery.”

As for Skyrim (job), how about just -not- installing it to your hard drive? You gotta have the disk in anyways, no matter what. People complain about weird things.

The Arkham save file though, that’s just awkward. I hope that gets fixed.

Installing helps out a lot, i.e. your box wont run as hot, faster loading. Regardless if it scales down, you should still install it.

I am a mainly Xbox player. I use my Laptop for games like GTA: VC/SA, the Sims, Half-Life 2, etc as that is all it can run, and I still think PC is way better.

No problems at all on PS3.
