Although Nintendo has toned down their reliance upon the Virtual Console for bringing good classic games to gamers (except for Yoshi’s Island  and Earthbound!), it’s always a good thing to have those classic games databased for easy access. It’s not every day that one would need to get excited about a VC game however.

Color me interested in the upcoming VC-release of Super Street Fighter II. Capcom Unity has announced that the Genesis version of this game is coming to VC, and not only that, it’s coming with online play! In case you forgot, Nintendo very rarely allows these emulated titles to be updated in any way, so the fact that this game is supporting netcode is all sorts of odd.

Now, before you think there is too much craziness going on, note that this version of SFII supported online play with the XBAND device, a rarely used product that brought early online play. Weird!
