Nintendo 3DS to Get Original Zelda Game
This is great news, for real! It’s no secret that the Nintendo 3DS is suffering from a dearth of good, enjoyable games, and the system could really use a game to drive sales. So it’s with great happiness and elation that I write this post.
According to a post on Eurogamer, Eiji Aonuma—the current Zelda guy at Nintendo—gave an interview with a Portuguese site, MyGames, during which Aonuma revealed that he and his team are working on a new original Zelda title for the system.
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS,” he said. “We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.”
Aonuma also said that they’re considering doing a Majora’s Mask remake onto the 3DS, but felt it would be lamesauce (he didn’t use that word) to release two back-to-back Zelda remakes without doing something original.
Now, it’s really just a fact of life that even the worst Zelda games are usually head and shoulders above most other games, so I have a very good feeling about this, you guys. Any game that makes me actually use the system is generally a good one, and Nintendo could use a boost like this—whenever it comes out. It’d be nice if we knew more about it, or even had a rough estimate for when it might come out, but just the fact that it exists is enough to help me sleep at night.
What’s that? Why, yes, I do stay up worrying about whether or not the 3DS will have successful software released for it. Doesn’t everyone?
