Last Thursday, we reported news that Sony was close to nabbing the rights to make films based on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed game franchise. Over the weekend, Fusible reported that Sony has registered over a dozen web domain names regarding such a movie. And here’s the twist part: the domains were registered on October 20, while the story in Variety about the deal hit the next day—which would make it seem as though this deal is done in more ways than one.
While neither Ubisoft nor Sony have made any official announcements, it’d be somewhat surprising for Sony to register these names if they didn’t already think they’d get some use out of them. The only reason I can think of for them buying these names prior to the contracts being inked would be to…sell them to the studio that does make the movie?
Here are the domain names Fusible lists:
Also: I made another shitty Assassin’s Creed movie mock up, this time starring movie star Adrien Brody. I like the one I did last week better. Whatever. Fuck you, Adrien Brody, for having the wrong sized-head.
