According to a post on IGN, a photo from the floor of the New York Comic-Con yesterday confirms that Beenox is working on a movie tie-in game for the forthcoming Andrew Garfield-starring Amazing Spider-Man franchise reboot. With Activision as publisher, Beenox has developed the last two Spidey-titles, Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, both of which had their share of successes and failures in execution. But Spider-Man 2, also published by Activision but developed by Treyarch, holds something of a legendary status for not only being an awesome movie tie-in, but also a simply awesome game. It featured a very faithful recreation of Manhattan, which functioned like an open-world, sandbox-type game. And people loved it. That game was the peak of the brief Spider-Man game renaissance we had, which had started way back with Neversoft’s Spider-Man, which was based on the comics. After Spider-Man 2, the character hasn’t really been able to swing quite as high.

So while this upcoming game may be an adaptation of a reboot, I’m still hopeful that Beenox will go back to Spider-Man 2 for inspiration on how to make this title really work like Treyarch’s game had.

That said, with such a short period of time for development between Edge of Time and this game’s supposed release (around the July date of the movie), I’m not really gonna hold my breath. Sigh.

New movie, new game. But lots of the spider-man games for today(Shattered Dimensions and Edge of time) are not the best right now. But I really do not want to became a game like AVATAR. Freakin’ awesome movie, extremely shitty RPG game and it’s not even based on the events from the movie. So maybe this ”Amazing Spider-man” will be good but I wantd a Spider-man 4.
