My experience with the Silent Hill franchise is going on a date with a former girlfriend of mine who professed to love scary movies, and going to see the filmic adaptation of the video game. It was utter shit.

But hey! Here’s details on Konami’s latest addition to the franchise, Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

Developed by WayForward, Book of Memories will break from tradition and be a top-down, multi-player co-op shooter. According to a Game Informer post about the title’s unveiling at GamesCom early this morning, “Players create a custom character at the outset and all receive a book full of memories, which they can rewrite through playing the game’s levels. It’s expected to include weapons and guns from the entire series, including signature monster Pyramid Head.”

A book full of memories…

That shit sounds downright romantic. Of course, that feeling should be tempered with the fact that the memories are likely to be filled with getting dragged to hell and getting buttfucked by demon skulls and stuff. So there’s that.

Also! Joystiq reports that Tomm Hulett, the producer behind the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour, has confirmed that Silent Hill HD Collection is planned for a simultaneous release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This is being done, apparently, in reaction to fan outcry at news that the collection was to be a PS3 exclusive.

The Silent Hill movie is drifting into a faint memory…book…
