Minecraft 1.8 Update Details

Notch is coyly dangling details for Minecraft update 1.8 on his blog, dancing around real details but providing some interesting food for thought.

“The update is pretty big, and will change a lot of how Minecraft is played, focusing on making exploration and combat much more rewarding, and bringing in a bigger sense of adventure to the game,” Notch posted.

He also teased out a laundry list of updates, including “new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas.”

One thing that stood out to me is the mention of NPC villages — how neat would it be to find a humble villa of blocky little dudes and houses in your adventures?
