Civilization Hitting Facebook this Summer

By Robert Hathorne | 12 May 2011 | 1 Comment

Facebook is going to have a game worth talking about this summer, or at least I’ll have a Facebook game worth talking about. Supposedly coming out sometime this summer, Civilization World is going to bring that turn-based digital crack that Firaxis is known for and put it on Facebook.

As a regular Civilization V player, and someone who’s been with the series for a long time, I’m skeptical of how the series will adapt to the platform. The game’s turn-based structure could work well — kind of like playing chess via email — but I’m not a fan of microtransactions. Alpha signups are going on now, so be sure to join if you’re interested. I’ve got a team already setup, so if you’d like to play with us, put your group leader as “Robert Hathorne” and the team name as “Intrepid Mackerel.”

Facebook games are crack to begin with so the civ world being on facebook was only a matter of time, after going through the whole bout with Farmville, I’ve managed to break away from that addiction but it seems that facebook is everywhere now. For the sake of keeping gaming the way it was and should be i’m kinda hoping it fails, this new direction gaming is heading in is ruining the fun. Sure it reaches more people but for the longest time its been pushing cheaper and cheaper games out with the promise of content that should already be with the game and the removal of single player cheats that used to make game enjoyable to play over and over again.
