Super indie PC gamers, tear your shirts and cry to the heavens. Gamestop announced today that it has acquired media streaming company Spawn Labs, and have consent to acquire Steam-like Impulse.

Spawn Labs previously worked on a peer-to-peer game streaming service that would allow multiple players to play a streamed game simultaneously. Impulse, on the other hand, was a division of Stardock. It functioned similarly to Steam, allowing users to chat, buy, and download games through the Impulse client.

As stated in the press release, this is an attempt by Gamestop to move into the digital market. The company has already participated in a measure of toe-dabbling, buying online games hub Kongregate last July and opening up a digital storefront on their site.

I’m interested to see what Gamestop does with a full-on digital market under its umbrella. What do you guys think – will Impulse now pester you to reserve games digitally every time you load it up?
