Survey Suggests NGP Price Point
A survey conducted by research firm Toluna, in attempting to gauge price points for the NGP, may have given us the first idea of what the handheld will cost. The survey tells applicants that the retail price of a Sony NGP will be $350, and then asks “How likely would you be to purchase the Sony NGP now that you know this retail price?” The next question reveals that this price is for the 3G-equipped model, and the handheld without will run $250.
The goal of this survey is to gauge consumer tolerance for price points. If enough applicants are perfectly fine with $350, you can bet the next survey would ask the same question but at $399. It’s also important to note that this survey is in no way related to Sony, and is in fact sponsored by Ubisoft. This means that Ubisoft is interested in what consumers feel about NGP price points, probably so they can predict sales, and thus plan development, when Sony eventually announces a price.
So ultimately this really has nothing to do with what an NGP may cost, but it does at least give an indication of what those in the industry are considering. It’s not much, but hey, we needed a clickout for Inside Gaming Daily.
