Crytec Addresses Crysis Leak Crisis

First off, I promise never to write a headline like that again. Following the leak of Crysis 2 onto torrent sites, Crytec has been working to reassure fans, and fans on the PC have been rabid for more information on the leak as well as what this means for their beloved platform.

Addressing diehard fans directly on the Crysis forums, Crytec CEO Cevat Yerli said:

As you all have heard by now, an early, incomplete build of Crysis 2 has been leaked online. While we are deeply disappointed by these events, we are all completely overwhelmed by the support we have received from you, our community.

Despite this unfortunate incident, we can assure you that PC gaming is very important to us and will always be important to Crytek in the future. We are all still focused on delivering a great gaming experience to our true and honest fans. I hope you will enjoy Crysis 2 on PC, as we think it is our best PC game yet!

We appreciate all of your continued support, and look forward to playing online with you soon!

It’s a nice gesture, and Crytec’s long-time support of the PC can’t be discounted, but with the original Crysis being heavily pirated already, if Crysis 2 sees those same levels of theft, future Crytec support of the platform may be in question. At some point, Crytec will have to face the bottom line.

  1. Why are they blaming piracy for their leak?
To leak content,it has to be someone on the inside or a really good hacker. You’d be surprised to find out that the leaked Crysis 2 isn’t that much of a download fest as torrent sites supposed it was going to be.The leak appeared on Friday. Some say it’s just for the marketing campaign, others say that it could be just a beta test.Respectively some download it just to see if it runs, others to check out the graphics, when some people try to play it they usually uninstall it just for not ruining their experience for the real thing. And I don’t buy their support for the PC as the main platform. No triple A studio would ever trust PC to give the big money and that’s not only because of piracy, but also because not all PC users can afford a good rig to run this graphical monster.
Don’t get me wrong here,I feel sorry for the developers, all their hard work from the last few years could be ruined by this leaked unfinished version, which could make potential customers to refuse to buy the game after playing this.
BTW didn’t the last two Halos get leaked weeks before their release? But they still sold really well, right?

  2. I hope their find who ever leak the game and make him watch twilight until he hang himself.

  3. I take my words back for Crytec not being supportive to PC.I see that they’re trying to make a game with such good graphics that can get us out of the uncanny valley and see what’s really on the other end.For now only the PC is capable of using the full potential of today’s graphical programming.Yes,the PS3 also has power, but it still needs a good video card to render such beauty,256MB won’t cut it and a 8-core processor won’t save it.

PS: If you don’t know what uncanny valley means, search “video games and the uncanny valley” in YouTube and see the first video that appears.
