It’s both awesome and perplexing that the PC shooter Painkiller has had such a lifespan. JoWood Entertainment announced Painkiller Redemption today, another entry in the series with a story nobody cares about and thousands of enemies to stake to walls. Literally – the press release says there are over 6,000 enemies to kill in the game.

The release doesn’t get to the really interesting stuff – release date or price – but does mention “Better AI – there is nowhere to hide! Enemies will get you.” I’m not sure why but the statement makes me giggle.

The game will include six levels, but in grand Painkiller style, these levels take north of an hour to finish each, so it’s bang on for a standalone expansion pack. Let’s just hope it’s priced to match.

Oh yeah, trivia time. The original Painkiller came from Polish developer People Can Fly, who is now working on… Bulletstorm!

I just want to carry 10 weapons at a time and run at average speed of 60mph.Is that too much to ask?
If we’re going to get more shooters than at least don’t make them ALL cover based ones.
