Microsoft Denies Kinect Accuracy Improvements

A recent article by Digital Foundry suggested the Kinect’s accuracy is currently bottlenecked on the 360, and that some hardware kajiggering could potentially quadruple its accuracy. Microsoft’s not having this though. According to Microsoft, not only is that information bunk, but the Kinect could scarcely be made more awesome than it already is.

“We’re constantly working to expand and improve on experiences for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE, however, this rumour is completely unsubstantiated,” a Microsoft Spokesperson said to CVG. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the fidelity of the technology and clearly consumers agree given we sold more than 2.5 million units around the world in the first 25 days Kinect was on the market.”

Even if the rumor was true, Microsoft would hardly cop to it. It’s generally not good business sense to admit that your latest and greatest product isn’t as good as it could be and that improvements are coming. That could potentially defer a purchase, and lord knows we can’t have that.
