Spike VGA Award Nominees Announced

vga

The Spike VGA Award nominations are out and, as with any awards, some don’t make a lick of sense. Overall, it’s not a bad list, but I do have some problems with some of the categories.

I’m not sure why they’re separating Best Independent Game from other categories. I would argue that Limbo could win a couple categories, and that the only reason it wasn’t nominated for more is because it was not made by a major publisher. If the category is to protect and nurture Independent games, that’s great, but it should not prohibit those titles from being nominated in other categories such as Downloadable Game.

The other category that’s just stupid is Most Anticipated Game. This is just a hype measure. I suppose it makes marketing happy to win such an award. Notice how every nominee is a sequel? Of course we’re looking forward to a sequel of a game we loved.

In any case, check out this list and find your own gripes.
