Recently we had the chance to fly to Montreal and check out THQ’s new Canadian digs. This new facility and studio will be home to Patrice Desilets, the man who created Assassin’s Creed, and his team. They will be tasked with creating new IP, AAA titles once Patrice begins work in the summer of 2011.
The studio will also house a second game development team that will be working on new and unannounced projects.
THQ Montreal was made possible by generous business incentives from the Provincial government of Quebec. The French Canadians ponied up 37 cents for every dollar THQ spent in the formation of the studio.
In addition to the main game teams, THQ Montreal will also serve as a main hub for all of THQ’s global quality assurance testing from studios worldwide. While our tour was fairly lackluster since the building was only occupied by 30 full-time staff and the majority of equipment still had to be installed, THQ expects all three floors of the studio, which is located in the heart of downtown Montreal, to house upwards of 400 employees.
Amenities like dual side-mounted monitor clamps at developer desks, a building-wide AV switcher that can host multiplayer gaming sessions across all three stories of the building, a stylish theater room, and space for an in-house gym with a compliment of showers makes THQ Montreal a modern and comfortable place to work.
