Sega Liking Initial Vanquish Numbers

Just because Platinum Games’ Vanquish has only been out for a week doesn’t mean that people at Sega aren’t already holding hands and squealing excitedly at each other. So I may be overstating it a bit, but Sega West CEO and President Mike Hayes is already chipper about the game’s performance.

“It’s been in the marketplace for two days, we’ve seen the day one numbers and we’re reasonably encouraged, but I think we need to see the rest of week one and probably week two just to see how it’s going to play out,” Hayes said.

Sega’s had an uncomfortable streak of publishing games that should perform well but don’t – MadWorld and Alpha Protocol to name a few.

“The challenge is that it’s a new franchise and that it’s releasing head-to-head with a lot of established franchises in the busiest time of the year,” Hayes said.

Of course, any numbers shared at this point would be purely speculative, so Hayes kept unit sales figures to himself. Regardless, better sales for Platinum means more crazy awesome games involving super robot suits and dominatrixes with bondage hair.
