At what point can I officially hate episodic gaming? For every publisher that gets it right, there are tons who just screw up the entire idea. In fact, I think only Telltale Games has been able to actually keep to a reasonable schedule for their episodes. Everyone else sucks, especially Valve.

But this isn’t about Half-Life 2 Episode 3, this is about StarCraft 2. Many may disagree that StarCraft 2 is an episodic game, but I beg to differ. When the gamer has been promised a single player campaign for each of the races from the start of the project, those campaigns do not constitute either a new game or an expansion.

We are now told that the Zerg campaign, Heart of the Swarm, won’t be available until 2012. The developer is saying that it will be at least 18 months until we get a storyline to go with our Zerg conquest.

The sad part is that I know I’ll be more than happy to buy it when it comes out in 2012, provided the Mayans haven’t destroyed the world by then.
