3DS to Fight Piracy with Automatic Updates

And no, this isn’t the sort of automatic where you have to click a button and then the 3DS does the rest. According to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, the 3DS will automatically download and install firmware updates. More than that, it will automatically connect to Wi-fi hotspots and download firmware updates and other data automatically, even in sleep mode. On top of that, the larger size of the DS flash carts will allow them to carry updated firmwares, which will update the system upon insertion.
Don’t like it? Go cry about it, emo kid. Nintendo has every right to protect their hardware and ensure that it’s a profitable platform for developers. While I’d like to believe this feature will preclude piracy, someone will probably find a way to disable the automatic updating.
