Super Meat Boy to Feature “Teh Internets”: Free DLC

Team Meat – the two man crew behind the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade platformer Super Meat Boy – have found a way to circumvent Microsoft’s data delivery service to give all players free content once they purchase the game.
“The short explanation is that Teh Internets is a specific chapter for Xbox 360 that takes advantage of Title Managed Storage (TMS) through the Xbox LIVE service that allows us to add new chapters whenever we feel like it to the game. Pretty awesome, but the best part is that it is absolutely 100% FREE,” Developer Tommy Refenes said.
The accomplishment was more than a mere technological achievement. The developers wanted to throw a middle finger to a system that constantly nickels and dimes players.
“In a world where it costs $2 to unlock content in a game that you’ve already purchased it is nice to have the power to totally say “fuck you” to that system and go our own way. As we upload content there are no micro transactions to play new chapters and we can basically do whatever we want with these chapters and it costs you, our adoring fans, nothing,” Refenes said. “We love you.”
Of course, Refenes anticipates that this will lead to hurt feelings for any PC or Mac players. First, he describes that to bring the game to XBLA, they had to pitch some sort of exclusive functionality.
“Before we all start to bitch and moan about this, know that in order for the game to come out on XBLA, we had to offer something exclusive and this was the best and coolest option for us,” Refenes said.
Super Meat Boy will hit the Xbox Live Arcade on October 22, and will allow you to play as any number of indie platform stars including Gish (Gish), Tim (Braid), and Commander Video (BIT.TRIP). If you don’t get it now, you have no heart.
