Memory Restrictions Delayed Final Fantasy XIV on PS3

Final Fantasy XIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka attributed the March release of the game for the PlayStation 3 to restricted memory on the console in comments to VG247.
“On the PC, they have enormous memory. For PS3, there’s a restriction,” Tanaka said, courtesy of a translator. “They are adjusting the memory size and customising it; it took longer then we were expecting. But we’re really working hard to bring it out as soon as possible.”
Given that the PlayStation 3 only has 256 MB of system RAM, and a modern PC has 4 GB (sixteen times as much), it’s no surprise the techs at Square Enix might need some extra time squeezing the game through. FFXIV will release on PC September 30, 2010 and on the PlayStation 3 in March 2011. Also, the game will enter open beta on the PC very soon.
