PlayStation 3 Possibly Cracked

After a record-setting four year run of diverting piracy, the PlayStation 3 may soon be the next home for widespread digital theft thanks to the PSJailbreak – a USB dongle that can bypass the PlayStation 3′s checks and run software from either a USB drive or the PS3′s hard drive.

The release of the dongle is understandably cloak and dagger. Reportedly, several mod chip merchants received anonymous packages from piracy mecca Hong Kong. After testing it, Australian-based OzModChips posted the above video to prove the hardware works.

Several supposed PS3 cracks have circulated in the past, all of which ended up to be fakes of varying complexity. It’s possible that’s happening again; it wouldn’t be difficult for a company to simply disappear after shipping thousands of cheap USB dongles with a $170 price tag. However, if this is authentic, it will be interesting to see how Sony responds.
