Preliminary estimates worked by VGChartz put first day sales of Starcraft II at 1.8 million units, which puts the RTS sequel on track to being the fastest-selling PC game ever. The figure’s a little nebulous at this point however. It includes both physical and digital sales of Starcraft II in North America and Europe, but does not include Korea, which is where the real nuclear detonation of Starcraft II sales will occur.

Quantifying Korean sales will be tricky given the various janky ways the game can be played including time cards or migrating an active World of Warcraft account. We expect Blizzard to toot its own horn soon in the form of a press release announcing worldwide sales figures, but until then we’ll have to wait and see if Starcraft II beats the current title holder World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King at 2.8 million units.
