Red Faction Movie Will Probably Be Horrible

But it might be horrible in a good way, if you take my meaning. THQ and the cable channel SyFy have partnered for a “transmedia strategic alliance,” giving birth to Red Faction: Origins, a two-hour live action pilot scheduled to air on SyFy in March 2011. The show occurs 25 years after the events of 2009′s Red Faction: Guerilla, centering around Jake Mason – the son of Guerilla protagonist Alec Mason. After spending years searching for his long-lost sister, Jake finds out that she is part of the EDF – the sworn enemy of every proponent of a free Mars. I can already hear the desperate and overwrought acting.
Red Faction: Armageddon (the video game due out March 2011) follows the generation after the movie – Alec Mason’s grandchildren. While you’d be foolish to expect quality cinema, this is a genuinely interesting idea that could add a lot of depth to an otherwise simple property. Here’s hoping there’s a lot of smashing stuff with hammers.
